There’s a lot of fuss that goes into preparing for an interview like this one.
I started chatting with The Steve Harvey show 312 days ago – when I tried to book a segment featuring my new book All My Friends are Engaged.
When they finally agreed to have me on, almost a year later, it took a good handful of hours to practice what to say during the segment and two boxes of tissues to dry my armpits right before I went on the stage.

If I have learned anything from these media interviews it’s this: don’t waste your time on trying to be put together and perfect, waste the time – all of it – on having fun. On remembering the feelings right before and right in the middle. Soon it will be over and you’ll be left with that. A prescription for your nervous butterflies to adapt to for the next delicately chaotic situation.
Ps. A special thanks to my brother, Jay, for helping me prepare my answers + my mom for styling me head to toe + and of course my dad, for making me laugh through every second of this journey.

Tomorrow he’s going to ask me how I turned my passion into a business. How one idea sparked all of this. But tonight, as I fly above states I’ve never been to and tip toe underneath the late night lights of an unfamiliar city I’ve only met before in my dreams, I tell myself this: life is an adventure madder than anything we can even begin to understand. It isn’t our job to understand it. It’s simply our job to try and keep up.
