boutonniere alternatives

If your hubby-to-be isn’t a fan of flowers or you’re looking to do a little something different when it comes to the groomsmen’s boutonniere, the good news is you have options! You don’t have to go the traditional route and pick out a mini-bouquet of flowers for the guys to wear on their jacket pocket, you can use different types of materials, gadgets, and even items to create a more out of the box look. Here are seven ways to add a little personality, flavor, and even a unique spin to the boutonnieres you design for your wedding day.

  1. Use Mini-Objects

Channeling the hobby of each individual groomsmen, you can pick up a mini pin or object and make it into a boutonniere. Doing this will even make each groomsmen stand out. If there’s one common hobby or location that the groomsmen have in common, or that the groom loves, you can make that the item for the boutonniere.

  1. Tie Together Ribbons

Instead of flowers, you can gather a couple of different colors of ribbon and tie them together. If you want to show support for a certain cause (breast cancer, veterans, etc.) you can use that color ribbon for the boutonniere.

  1. Feathers

This will give your boutonnieres a little twist. You can buy a pack of decorative feathers and dye them a certain color that matches your wedding theme or wedding colors.

  1. Origami

Use different colored and patterned sheets of paper and fold them into interesting shapes and either pin them on a jacket or have them tucked into the jacket pocket.

  1. Legos from the Past

Bring the groomsmen back to their childhood and incorporate Legos into a boutonniere.

  1. Decorative Keys

Gather together different shaped keys and tie mini flowers or ribbon around them for a vintage flair to your wedding and a different look to your traditional boutonniere.

  1. Pocket Squares

You can skip the flowers and the traditional boutonniere look all-together and opt-in for pocket squares instead. This will be a more formal and simple look and something that every groomsmen can pull off.
