As we grow up and start imagining the ins and outs of our very own wedding, our dreams become clouded with wedding traditions that we’ve seen passed down from generation to generation. The white wedding dress, the romantic ceremony, and a reception with a sit down style meal that’s sure to wine and dine the stomachs of the hundreds of guests you’ve invited to share this special day with. But as we move into modern times, those traditions are becoming outdated and even things that hardly make sense anymore. You don’t have to have a cookie-cutter wedding to have the celebration of a lifetime! So in order to have a more open mind about how to plan your wedding, here are four wedding traditions you can kick to the curb.
Wedding dresses used to be limited to a couple of different shades of white and off-white. But now, they come in all different colors, from blush to blue, from ombre to champagne. You no longer have to strut your stuff down the aisle in one particular color. Pick a dress and a color that flirts well with your skin tone and your style.
The superstition that you couldn’t see your fiancé before the wedding is a tradition that’s been benched for a while. More and more couples are doing pre-ceremony first-looks. If you want to take photos before the wedding begins, consider a pre-ceremony first-look so that you can get those pictures out of the way and dance right into the wedding after you say I DO.
It used to be that women were bridesmaids and men were groomsmen, but now that no longer has to matter. You can mix it up and have both genders in both rules!
If you already have enough kitchen appliances to last you a lifetime, register for things that are more outside of the box – literally. You can register for your honeymoon, a house fund, or even other items that you want as gifts from your guests.
