Can I Bring a Doggy Bag of Food Home From the Wedding?

Food at weddings can be ultra delicious and the taste testing; face-stuffing using begins as early as the cocktail hour. Weddings make people hungry. That’s because the ceremony is using smack down in the middle of most people’s dinner time, and once the couple has exchanged their vows and sealed the deal with a smooch, people’s stomachs are making all kinds of noise.

By cocktail hour, tiny plates are stacked up with Hors D’oeuvre and wedding guests are looking to snag seconds on the mini lobster tacos or the spicy tuna cones. So when it comes time to reception and the three-course meal, you may find yourself already full. The question that some guests will ask is: can I take this food home with me? They will take a bite or two and want to bring the rest home for dinner tomorrow night. Is it okay to ask a server for a box to take it home or should they let it go to waste?

In the end, the couple did spend a couple hundred dollars a person on the food. If people don’t take advantage of the meal in front of them, it’s kind of a waste, right?

It’s okay to the waiter or the server for a bag or a box to take your meal home with you, but try not to make it noticeable to the other guests or even the bride and the groom. If the couple sees their guest boxing up their food, they may start to get worried and wonder why nobody there is hungry. Instead, ask the staff to box up your meal in the kitchen and have them bring it out to you toward the end of the night when the other guests and the bride and groom are out on the dance floor.

Know that it is okay to do this, but not okay to make a scene about it.
