After your wedding is over and you find yourself taking inventory on all of the gifts that you received from your list of guests, you may find that you have a pile of items that you wish you could get rid. These items are not ones you want to toss in the trash, but rather somehow trade in to receive cash for them. So whether or not you have a receipt or know where item was purchased, here are 5 ways to turn unwanted wedding gifts into cash.
1. If It Has a Receipt, Return It
The first thing you should do when you receive a gift you are not happy with is to find the receipt for it. Perhaps it is included in the card the guest sent you or there’s a gift receipt that’s attached to the item. If you do have a receipt, take the item back to the store and see if you can either get cash back or you can get a store credit.
2. Google the Brand Name & Model
If you don’t have a receipt, the first thing you should do is Google the brand name and the model of the item you have and see if there are stores that will take it back. Some stores will take back an item, if they sell it, even if you don’t have proof that it was purchased there.
3. Sell it Online
If you can’t find the store it belongs to, your next option is to sell the item online. You can use a site like Craigslit.com or eBay.com to find a new owner for the gift, that will pay you a good sum of money for it.
4. Find a Bartering Site
If there’s something else of equal value that you’d prefer getting instead, check out bartering sites and see if you can do an even exchange between your item and another on the website.
5. Use a Gift Card Exchange
If the gift you are never going to use is a gift card, you can go on a gift card exchanged website and exchange the gift card for one from another store that you will use instead.
