Do I Need to Have an Engagement Party?

Getting engaged is a milestone in life that’s cause for a celebration. So after the “will you marry me” question has been popped, and the ring has been slipped onto your finger, you may wonder, “How do I celebrate this awesome moment?” You’ll probably begin by blasting out the news to everyone that you know. You’ll post pictures of the ring, the tears, and the fiancé all over your social media feeds. You’ll even call all your family members and friends and spill the news to them before you have the chance to sit back, relax, and take it all in.

But even after all that, you’ll start to wonder, should I host an engagement party? Should I invite the people closest to me to join in and celebrate my engagement, months before the wedding?

It’s important, before you decide anything, to set a budget. Plan out your wedding expenses from now until the wedding. If you find that you have a little leftover cash, then decide if you do want to throw an engagement party. While some people create engagement parties as big as some people’s weddings, you don’t have to throw the party of the century. You can throw a small get together at a local restaurant, or your home, for under 25 people. An intimate and small celebration for your friends and family. Or, if you want to do a more large scale party, you can invite all the guests you plan to invite to the wedding. Just know, this will require a lot of money and time to do.

If you’re not looking to do an engagement party, you don’t have to! With the wedding adventure, there are many parties that come before the wedding, which means changes to celebrate. There’s no need to place a strain on your budget for an engagement party.
