Having an outdoor wedding may seem like a great way to give into nature and put a fresh spin on a traditional wedding experience. But before you plan to say I Do and dance the night away underneath the stars and the moon, you may want to do your due diligence and know the ins and outs and the pros and cons of having your wedding in an outdoor setting. Here are the 5 things no one tells you about having the celebration of your lifetime at an outdoor venue.
1. It’s Going to Get Hot
Even if you decide to have your wedding in the middle of winter, outdoors, or you rent a tent to protect you from the summer heat wave, unless you have a handful of powerful air conditioners, it’s going to get hot. When people are spending the night close to one another, breaking it down on the dance floor, they will find their body temperatures hotter than usual. If you’re heading outdoors for your wedding, be sure to give guests fans and perhaps even an indoor spot they can take a breather in if they need some cool air.
2. The Bugs May show Up
Having a wedding outdoors means that your number one wedding crasher may be the uninvited bugs that show up to either bite your guests or take a bite of their food. Be sure to have cans of bug spray available and even chat with the outdoor venue to see if they can spray the property before your wedding so that bugs aren’t tempted to come and say hello.
3. You May Have More Wedding Crashers
Since you’re doing your wedding outdoors, you may not have a great way of blocking off the property from the general public, especially if you’re doing it on a public beach or park. Find a way to barricade the area of your wedding area or hire security so that uninvited guests can’t swing by and get a taste of the party or the open bar.
4. Beware of Unexpected Dirt
If you’re spending a couple of thousand dollars on the wedding dress of your dreams and a pair of shoes that cost more money than you’ve ever spent before on heels, remember that because you’re doing the wedding outside, things will get dirty fast. You never know what your next step might find you heels deep in, so don’t be alarmed if by the end of the night your dress and shoes are black instead of white.
5. Remember to Have a Back-Up Plan
Weather is something you can’t control ever. So if you’re going to do your wedding outdoors, have a viable and easy rain back-up plan. You may think that you’re going to get lucky, but you truly can’t predict what will happen hours or even minutes before it’s time to walk down the aisle. If you can’t predict the rainstorm have a way to fight it off so it doesn’t ruin your big day.
