5 Reasons Weddings Are Getting Pricier for Guests to Attend

Everybody knows that one of the most infamous things about weddings is the price tag that is associated with them for the couple. The cost of a wedding can sometimes be more than what the average person spends on a down payment for a house or four years of college at a pristine university. But another person the wedding becomes quite the hefty expensive for is the guest. The average wedding guest will spend over $700 on a wedding. If you’re wondering how and why it’s become so expensive to watch a friend or family member say I do, here are 5 reasons.

1. Giving More Gifts

Not only are guests giving a gift on the wedding day, they are giving gifts before the wedding too. Guests are spending a pretty penny on pre-wedding gifts for the engagement party, the bridal shower and even the bachelorette party too.

2. Traveling a Further Distance

More and more people are doing destination weddings or getting married in places that aren’t local to them or you. Travel for a wedding can easily eat up a ton of money for a person that’s trying to make it to the location for the weekend, especially if it’s a holiday weekend.

3. Making a Weekend Out of It

Weddings are definitely a party to be had and some guests are looking to extend that party so that it is more than one evening. Guests will try to head over to the city of the wedding the day before or even stay over the night after to make it a mini-vacation.

4. Outfits are Getting Fancier

With social media taking center stage at weddings, some guests don’t want to be caught wearing the same outfit twice. Spending money on a dress, whether it’s because you’re a bridesmaid or just a guest, can easily cost you a couple of hundred bucks per wedding.

5. You May Be Paying for Your Plus One

Since some couples are getting more flexible with their plus one handouts, guests are feeling obligated to give a gift that covers the cost of the reception plate for them and the person they are bringing to tag along.
